Mazdutide
Mazdutide is a synthetic peptide analog of oxyntomodulin, a naturally occurring gut hormone
It is a dual agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) and glucagon receptor (GCGR)
By activating both GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, Mazdutide suppresses appetite, enhances insulin secretion, increases energy expenditure, and improves glucose metabolism, making it a promising therapy for weight management and glycemic control
It is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection and has been approved for marketing in China for chronic weight management as of June 2025
Mechanism of Action
GLP-1 Receptor Agonism: Enhances insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, suppresses appetite, and slows gastric emptying, promoting weight loss and glycemic control
Glucagon Receptor Agonism: Increases energy expenditure and mobilizes fat stores, contributing to weight loss and metabolic improvements
Research application
Copied from the handbook as research notes. and not instructions.
- 5mg vial of Mazdutide
- Reconstitution volume: 2mL of BAC water
- 1 mg dose = 20 units
- 3 mg dose = 60 units
- 6 mg dose = 120 units
- Weeks 1-4: Start at 1-2 mg/week (20-40 units) to assess tolerance
- Weeks 5-8: Increase to 3-4 mg/week (60-80
units) if tolerated
- Weeks 9+: Target 4-6 mg/week (80-120 units) for maintenance, based on response
Unless other wise noted intermuscular (IM) peptides are commonly administered via subcutaneous (SQ) injection with 30-31 gauge syringes
