Telmisartan
Elite ResearchTelmisartan is a medication classified as an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It’s primarily used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. By blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that constricts blood vessels, telmisartan helps relax and widen blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow. This reduces the workload on the heart and can help prevent complications like heart attacks, strokes, or kidney issues in patients with hypertension or certain cardiovascular conditions
Key Uses
Hypertension: Lowers blood pressure to reduce cardiovascular risks
Heart Failure: Improves heart function in specific cases
Improved Blood Flow: Telmisartan’s vasodilatory effects increase blood flow to muscles, potentially enhancing oxygen and nutrient delivery during exercise. This could improve endurance and recovery
Water Retention: Some athletes, particularly bodybuilders, might use telmisartan off-label to counteract water retention caused by anabolic steroids, (such as Growth Hormone) which can increase blood pressure and fluid retention. Its mild aldosterone-blocking effect could help
Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: May be prescribed for patients at high risk of heart attack or stroke, particularly those with type 2 diabetes and protein in the urine (proteinuria)
